This video speaks so strongly to the EQ competency of Optimism. When we adopt an optimistic approach we are making a choice in our lives, we can take a proactive view of hope and possibility and create options for ourselves.
Trust is that invisible force that makes things feel just right, and as we all know, trust is at the core of all relationships whether at home or at work and without it the relationship takes a lot of strain. With trust in your workplace teams are more productive, meetings run efficiently, and you work with autonomy, however when trust is running low, especially during times of change, everyone has an eye on the exit.
Practical emotional intelligence starts with observing how you feel and behave to create awareness. This then allows you to take responsibility for both your feelings and behaviour to create a more positive impact on all areas of your life. From here you are then able to practice responding rather than reacting which assists in practicing empathy with yourself and others.
This is the final EQ competency in the Six Seconds EQ Model, and one that is very dear to me as we are never on this life’s journey alone but surrounded by people with whom we need to interact on a daily basis. For these interactions to be meaningful we need to Increase Empathy.
Most of us are over the new year slump by now and ready to tackle the rest of 2021. There’s no better way to start off the second quarter of the year than looking into the competency of Pursuing Noble Goals. This competency falls within the Give Yourself area of our EQ model, where we find our self-direction and become more purposeful. This is when you do things for a reason and live your vision in your daily actions so that you lead with purpose and integrity.
Isn’t it ironic how December is always regarded as the season to be merry and yet it is probably one of the most hectic and stressful times of the year? The stress of wrapping up business for the year, driving on our roads and facing overcrowded shopping centers!! Finally we have the gathering of the clans, for many families this can be a stressful time in their lives. We also think of the matric pupils who nervously await their final results.
